My name is Serena Adlerstein and I saw The Toymaker’s War at the Little Festival of the Unexpected in Portland, Maine when I was in high school. I am currently a Sophomore at NYU and four years later I still continually think about your play. I am studying the use of the arts for social change and I think your play has stayed with me throughout the years because of how, although a fictional story, it made the audience consider the two sides to the Bosnian/Serbian conflict and furthermore reflect on how complicated all such situations truly are.
I am writing to you because I was wondering if you would be willing to send me or let me purchase a copy of the script for The Toymaker’s War. Obviously several years have passed since I’ve seen it and I would be extremely interested in re-reading the play. I was also wondering about whether the rights to do the show could be purchased and how I could go about doing that. I think it is an incredibly important and relevant work that would be received very well on a college campus such as NYU. I have no immediate plans to do anything with The Toymakers War, but I was just curious as to whether it would be possible to produce a version of it here at NYU. When I saw it four years ago, it made me aware of the importance of political theater and I think it could inspire a lot of further important works of political art and action here in New York. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!
